Liliana's Party

Oh, Lord! How do I start? Yesterday, I was invited to Liliana's home, as she threw a party for the DePaul professors. I'm not good at this; my social life is really boring and it only comes down to the usual year-round celebrations: Christmas, close friends' birthdays and the like.

I just realized that my comfort zone in this aspect is way too comfortable! I wonder if the same is happening to my teaching; one can end up doing things mechanically or repeating that same activity that worked like a breeze five years earlier.

Certainly, being there was pleasant, although I'm not used to talking to so many people I don't know. It's funny how people tend to think that teachers enjoy being on the spotlight, socially speaking, that is. As far as I'm concerned, I'm more the keep-a-low-profile type in a social setting.

The DePaul professors were there, and I also met this wonderful woman, Jackie, who has been studying for a long time at the Instituto Cervantes and has traveled to Latin America more than anyone else I know.
